TVING has extended the claim period for its data breach compensation. Eligible members who didn’t apply by September 30 can apply additionally from 10:00 a.m. on October 6 to 11:59 p.m. on October 30.

The extension notice was posted on the website and app on September 29, the day before the original deadline. Members who already applied in September can’t apply again or change the reward they chose, and additional claims will be paid from November 4. The CGV coupon was dropped during the extension period.

The scope of the breach covered by compensation

On September 3, the joint public-private investigation team of the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that information from 39.54 million accounts, including duplicates, was leaked from TVING. Of these, 22.06 million were active accounts that could log in, and the cause was an access key written in plain text in the source code.

Account type Accounts Average items leaked
Accounts with CI 19.04 million 11.1
Accounts without CI 20.40 million 4.6

The leaked data covers 20 items in 70 types, including name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, and connecting information (CI). CI is a unique value that identifies one person in identity verification services, so it can’t be changed like a password. That’s also why the rewards include phishing protection insurance: this information can be used in text and phone scams.

Compensation is per person, not per account, so even if you used several accounts you can apply only once.

Separately from claiming compensation, you should also change the password of any other service where you used the same password as TVING.

Rewards and what changed

Rewards for extended claims Rewards for extended claims — Source: TVING

The TVING compensation page lists four rewards for extended claims.

Reward Details Note
Phishing protection insurance 1 year, covers cyber financial crime Up to ₩3 million
Premium viewing features 4K, 4 simultaneous devices, 400 downloads Provided automatically
50 TVING points Worth ₩5,000 For content purchases
1-month Wavve pass Standard with ads Instead of CGV

In the first round in September, members chose one entertainment benefit among premium viewing features, a Wavve pass, and a CGV coupon. During the extension the CGV coupon isn’t offered, and the page says multiple rewards can be selected. Some reports said you pick one of the four, so check the actual selection method on the claim page.

Premium viewing features apply to members subscribed to the Standard with ads, Basic, or Standard plans, from October 6 to January 31, 2027. Apple TV content is excluded, and Standard with ads members still see ads. The premium feature period for first-round claimants was also extended from December 31, 2026 to January 31, 2027.

How to apply and things to note

The claim route is the same as in Part 6. Log in to the TVING app or official website, verify your identity on the compensation page in the MY menu, and choose your reward.

[Members who left] Re-register for free, then apply through the same route

[Multiple accounts] Only one claim per person

[Changed contact details] Payment notices are texted to the number in your member info; update it by October 30

[Changes after applying] Selected rewards can’t be canceled, changed, or reissued

TVING said information collected during identity verification is used only to confirm eligibility and pay out, and is destroyed after payment. You can check eligibility on the compensation page after logging in.

Beware of impersonation texts during the extension

When the claim period is extended, the period during which texts impersonating compensation notices circulate can lengthen too. TVING’s payment notices are sent only to the number registered in your member info, and claims are accepted only through the MY menu in the app or official website.

If a text asks you to follow a link and log in or enter card details, suspect impersonation. Suspicious texts can be reported to KISA at 118.
