Applications for TVING data breach compensation close at 11:59 p.m. on September 30. As of September 20 that leaves ten days.
Quite a few people put it off when applications opened on September 7, but this compensation is not paid out automatically to those eligible. Only people who apply themselves within the window receive it.

The remaining schedule and the closing time
The application deadline and the payout start date are different. Even if you apply by September 30, the benefits are delivered in sequence from October 6.

- September 7, 10 a.m.: applications open
- September 30, 11:59 p.m.: applications close
- From October 6, 10 a.m.: benefits delivered in sequence
No separate remedy process for applying after the deadline has been announced. Nor had any notice of an extension appeared as of September 20.
How many have applied has not been published either. Neither TVING nor the government has released an interim tally, so there is no way from outside to know how many eligible people remain.

The route is the MY menu in the app and on the web
There is one route. Log in to the TVING app or the official website and go to the compensation application page in the MY menu, where you can check eligibility, verify your identity, and choose your benefit on one page.
Customer service does not take applications. You cannot apply by phone; support handles only questions about errors.
Members who have withdrawn are still eligible if they were affected. But since the application page appears only after login, you have to rejoin for free and then take the same route.
Reports differ on how many are eligible
The joint public-private investigation team confirmed 39.54 million leaked accounts. The number eligible for compensation, however, is reported as 13.24 million in some outlets and 19.5 million in others.
The numbers diverge over how duplicate accounts and dormant or withdrawn accounts are counted. Rather than guessing whether you are eligible, it is safer to check in the MY menu.
Four compensation items and one choice
The only thing to choose on the application screen is the entertainment benefit; everything else is the same for all eligible people.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Hacking and phishing insurance | One year, up to ₩3 million per person |
| Premium viewing features | From October 6 to December 31: 4K, four simultaneous streams, 400 downloads |
| 50 TVING points | Worth ₩5,000, usable on individual content purchases |
| Entertainment benefit | Choose one: a one-month Wavve pass or a ₩5,000 CGV combo discount coupon |
Reporting put the combined value at around ₩20,000. Since actually using the benefits requires subscribing to TVING again, this is also where user complaints landed after the compensation plan was published.
The insurance and the points, though, are yours regardless of a subscription.
Where applications get stuck
Identity information does not match
If you changed the mobile number you signed up with, or the account is now under a different name, identity verification cannot proceed. In that case, contact customer service about breach compensation to get the account information aligned.
Being shown as ineligible
Often the account you logged in with is not the account that was affected. If you were using a social-login account and an ID-based account separately, log in to each and check.
Confirming your application went through
Returning to the same page shows your application status. Since payouts start on October 6, seeing no delivery record before then is normal.
What has happened since applications opened
Separately from compensation, proceedings to assign responsibility are under way.
The class action
The law firm Jihyang filed a damages suit at the Seoul Central District Court on June 11 with 1,051 users as plaintiffs. The claim is ₩300,000 per person.
Inquiries about joining rose after the compensation plan was published, and reporting put expected participation at 200,000 to 300,000 people. Against the number of eligible people, that is 1–2%.
The fine
The Personal Information Protection Commission has not issued its decision. Against average revenue of ₩389.3 billion over the last three years, the current 3% ceiling would be about ₩11.7 billion, while the punitive 10% ceiling under the amended act in force since September has been discussed as reaching about ₩40 billion.

Compensation applications go through the TVING app; joining the suit goes through the law firm handling it, separately.
Whether applying for compensation comes with a condition barring you from the suit has not been confirmed.

Watch for impersonation texts near the deadline
Impersonation texts tend to multiply as a compensation deadline nears. TVING has given notice that it does not ask for money or additional personal data in connection with compensation.
- Do not tap links in texts or emails directly
- Open the app or the official website yourself and go to the MY menu
- Treat any request to install an app or provide account details for compensation as impersonation
Because the leaked data includes names, dates of birth, and mobile numbers, the texts read plausibly. Judge by how you got there, not by the sender’s number or the wording.

Applying takes five minutes, and once the deadline passes the application screen is no longer reachable.
